Several states have seen a drastic rise in crime over the last few years. After both the Democrats and Black Lives Matter promoted police departments being defunded across the United States, many officers decided to either quit or retire early. Now, with many departments trying to replenish their ranks, criminal activity has surged. But while criminals might find it easier to operate outside of the law, in Texas, a teenager shot and killed two men who were trying to break into his mother’s home.

Over the weekend, police officers in Channelview, Texas, responded to a call of a homicide. When deputies responded to the residency, they found two men lying on the lawn, both unresponsive. The two individuals suffered gunshot wounds from a shotgun. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff. When investigators showed up, they determined through interviews that three men tried to break into the house that was occupied by one female and two boys, one 12 and the other 17. With the criminals armed, the teenager retrieved a shotgun kept in the house and opened fire on the men, hitting two of them. The third individual escaped in a four-door sedan.

Currently, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is asking residents to come forward with any information they have on the shooting or suspects. He also recommended the incident be shown in front of a grand jury. “The case will be presented to a grand jury. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.”

Online users commended the teenager for protecting his family. “Excellent! You should be able to stand your ground and defend your life, the life of others, and your property. Maybe if criminals knew that their next crime might be their last, they would think twice before breaking into homes, cars, stores, etc.”

Another person added, “Nothing like sitting down out on the deck under the umbrella on a nice sunny day to a hot lunch of leftover roast beef and great veggies from last night and reading a heartwarming story like this. Just made my day! Say what you want about today’s youth, but that 17 y/o showed a lot of guts, and with his fast thinking, he may have saved the lives of his siblings and himself. Kudos kid! You get my vote!”

And one concluded, “It’s long been a mystery to me why individuals killed during the commission of a crime are referred to as suspects or alleged perpetrators. Whether they die at the hands of the police while being apprehended in the act or by a victim defending themselves, they are receiving their justice immediately. Crime should be a very hazardous profession with a very short life expectancy.”
