In the wake of past-failed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ claims that a fetal heartbeat at six-weeks pregnancy is a “manufactured sound,” Planned Parenthood has reportedly decided to redefine what a fetal heartbeat is on their website, calling it “cardiac activity” that only “sounds like a heartbeat.”

Earlier in September, Abrams – who has repeatedly peddled false claims that she won the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial race in 2018 despite losing the race by nearly 55,000 votes – made an outlandish claim in the lead-up to her second attempt at Georgia’s governorship by stating there’s “no such thing” as a fetal heartbeat at six weeks pregnancy.

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

Prior to Abrams’ wild claims about a fetal heartbeat being a “manufactured sound,” an archived version of Planned Parenthood’s website found the abortion mill asserted that at weeks five through six of a woman’s pregnancy, “A very basic beating heart and circulatory system develop.”

However, following Abrams’ claims, Planned Parenthood opted to redefine what a fetal heartbeat at this stage of a pregnancy, located on the same portion of their website, claiming, “A part of the embryo starts to show cardiac activity. It sounds like a heartbeat on an ultrasound, but it’s not a fully-formed heart — it’s the earliest stage of the heart developing.”

On September 27th, pediatrician Kathleen Berchelmann made an appearance on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends First,” where she claimed that Planned Parenthood’s redefining of medical terminology is part of a broader effort by the “pro-choice advocacy side” to alter how pregnancy and abortion is discussed.

“I think this is just the oldest trick in the book in the pro-choice advocacy side, which is to redefine medical language. You know, years ago, they redefined a pregnancy from ‘conception’ to ‘implantation in the uterus,’ and now they’re redefining heartbeat versus cardiac activity.”

While Berchelmann is privy to the tricks being employed by Planned Parenthood, she’s confident that Americans aren’t going to buy the “wordsmithing” nonsense that Planned Parenthood is trying to peddle on their website.

“But the problem here is that every American that has had that experience…when you go in for that first visit and you see that tiny flutter and you see it on the screen, you know there’s a real life there. You know there’s a real heartbeat there, and that movement makes sound – even if it’s very small – which is, you know, it can be amplified using an ultrasound machine. So to call it anything other than…a heartbeat and calling it cardiac activity is just wordsmithing and changing definitions.”
