A cartoon dubbed “Little Demon” that recently premiered on the Disney-owned platform Hulu is causing quite the stir over the satanic themes and overall content from the show.

The show “Little Demon” premiered on August 25th through Hulu’s FXX channel (which is a channel owned by the Walt Disney Television unit of The Walt Disney Company through FX Networks). Wikipedia describes the show as being an “adult animated sitcom” bearing the following synopsis:

“Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan, a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.”

Jeremy Segal, writing for The Gateway Pundit, was among those who find the subject matter of this cartoon particularly disturbing, noting that the satanic imagery aside, there are scenes of graphic violence and nudity that borders on being “pornographic.”

“The series features demonic witchcraft, pagan rituals, gratuitous blood, gore, and nudity, and judging by the trailer,” he said, “can easily be considered pornographic by definition.”

If it weren’t painfully obvious already, the cartoon in question is not appropriate for younger viewers, with the show having a rating of TV-MA, with the Parental Guide warning of the intense violence and gore by noting, “Human characters are frequently killed or dismembered with gratuitous gore, and demons are often depicted with gruesome wounds and body horror.” The show is also peppered with unpixilated nudity.

Apparently, the “Little Demon” series was co-produced by Dan Harmon, the man also behind the adult-themed animated show “Rick and Morty,” which is also a TV-MA affair.

Seth Kirschner, the creator of the show, said, “We are going to keep going for it until we are told no.”

Even some reviewers who weren’t necessarily outraged over the sacrilegious content of the show “Little Demon” find the show to be generally unentertaining. Critic Brian Tallerico, writing for RogerEbert.com, said the show’s, “plotting and dialogue never match the visual creativity,” adding, “It often goes for the extreme joke but too rarely finds the funny one, mistaking chaotic for comedic.”

A review from GameRant’s Joshua Kristian McCoy was also unforgiving, comparing “Little Demon” to being an unfunny version of “Rick and Morty.”

“The reason [Little Demon] falls short of [Rick and Morty’s] lofty heights is almost entirely in the writing. It’s simply not as funny as its competition. It tries and fails to somehow wring gags out of semi-accurate usage of Gen-Z’s turn of phrase. It feels like the team thinks saying the word ‘canceled’ or ‘slay’ is enough to get a laugh on its own.”

McCoy emphasized in his review of the show, “It consistently feels like material that thinks it’s funnier than it is.”

So whether the content of the show is perturbing to some or not, “Little Demon” sounds like something that can be easily skipped over for something a bit more entertaining.

One Million Moms has created a petition to ask Disney to cancel the show, which it says is “disturbing.” The site says, “Disney has taken yet another dangerous step into the darkness with its new animated sitcom series, Little Demon.”
