UVALDE, TX – As the investigation into the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, which resulted in 19 children and two teachers being killed progresses, additional insight into what could’ve happened to prevent this tragedy has been coming to light.
One of the more disturbing pieces of information to come out as of late is an alleged arrest that occurred four years earlier of the now-deceased 18-year-old shooter – and he was allegedly arrested for threatening to commit a school shooting.
The information of this alleged arrest came by way of Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales during an interview with Fox News on May 27th. Rep. Gonzales claimed he’d received some details about the prior arrest of Salvador Ramos on the evening of May 26th.
“Well, I found out late last night that, you know…the shooter was arrested years ago – four years ago – for having this plan. For basically saying, ‘You know, when I’m a senior in 2022, I am going to shoot up a school.’ And this was four years ago, they apprehended him. So something fell between the cracks, between then and now, to allow this to happen.
We need to we need to shake out all the facts, we need to figure out what happened, where are the holes, and we need to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But if law enforcement, you know, identified him four years ago as a threat, we need to figure out why he wasn’t, you know, how he got removed from that.”
Fox News host Peter Hegseth wanted to ensure he was hearing the claims correctly, saying, “I want to make sure we make this point clear. You’re saying there’s an arrest report – an engagement with the police – four years ago, where they had identified he’d made a prediction he was going to do something like this in this very year?”
The Republican congressman reiterated that was the case, adding that Ramos allegedly had made this threat along with some unnamed friend.
“So, four years ago, he him and a friend – and I want to look into the details – hey, where is that guy at? What is he doing? Because there’s a lot of copycats out there, and I just want to make sure that the threat is completely over. So four years ago, he came out, and…he was saying that he was going to shoot up a school and his senior in 2022.”
Authorities have previously gone on record about the shooter not having any criminal record as an adult but noted he may very well have one as a juvenile. However, juvenile records are largely unavailable to the public.
Hours after Rep. Gonzales made the aforementioned claims about the shooter having been arrested four years earlier, he reportedly retracted his claims about Ramos being arrested for an alleged threat to shoot up a school, saying, “It is now unclear if the shooter was one of the two kids detained,” during the 2018 incident.
Apparently, there was an incident in Uvalde in 2018 regarding two juveniles, aged 14 and 13, who were obsessed with the Columbine shooting that had drafted a plan to carry out a school shooting. While the identities of these two juveniles were not revealed, Uvalde Police claimed that Ramos was not one of the two involved in the 2018 incident.
