There were signs, a plethora of signs. They were so clear this writer cataloged them just after Biden’s election in November of 2020.

We were already in pullout negotiations with the Taliban. The Trump administration had reduced our troop presence in the country. Taliban activity in the countryside was increasing. In fact, they had already taken some strategic strongpoints, small towns, and were threatening provincial capitals.

But most of all, our enemies around the world knew a Democrat administration meant that it would be open season on American interests.

The Biden administration ignored all that and idly sat back and let the situation develop by itself. As power abhors a vacuum, the Taliban stepped into the cockpit and several months later American troops were dying in Kabul and we were running away with our tail between our legs. These calamities were all predictable if a detailed and coherent withdrawal plan was not on the books. By the look of these leaked documents, it looks like it wasn’t.

FNC: “The Biden administration’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan faced new scrutiny on Tuesday after a news outlet said it obtained leaked notes from the White House Situation Room that showed ‘just how unprepared’ it was to evacuate Afghan nationals who assisted Americans during the conflict.

Axios first reported on the alleged leaked documents and said they showed how many ‘crucial actions’ the U.S. was lining up just as Kabul began to fall to the Taliban. Emily Horne, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, downplayed the weight of these documents and told the website that although she could not comment on these particular items, ‘cherry-picked notes from one meeting do not reflect the months of work that were already underway.’ The report said the NSC meeting took place on Aug. 14 at about 3:30-4:30 p.m. ET. One of the action items included in the summary of conclusions was the State Department identifying ‘as many countries as possible to serve as transit points. Transit points need to be able to accommodate U.S. citizens, Afghan nationals, third country nationals, and other evacuees.’ It never happened.

Biden’s lame ex post facto excuse? “I was not going to extend this forever war. And I was not going to extend a forever exit.” In terms that made him sound like a junior high schooler, Biden rationalizes yet another debacle.
