An admiral for the United States Navy is speaking out this week to claim that the First Lady Jill Biden helped to disrupt the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan last summer.

Rear Adm. Peter Vasely, who is currently the special assistant to the Director of the Navy Staff, told the Washington Post,  that a “distraction” was caused by the constant calls for help during the botched withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, saying that this “created competition for already stressed resources.”

When asked whether Jill and Pope Francis intervened with the evacuation efforts to ask for help on the behalf of others, Vasely replied, “that’s accurate.”

“I was being contacted by representatives from the Holy See to assist the Italian military contingent … in getting through groups … of special interest to the Vatican,” he said. “That is just one of many examples. I cannot stress enough how these high-profile requests ate up bandwidth and created competition for already stressed resources.”

After becoming overwhelmed with these incessant calls for help, Vasely launched a “coordination cell” to help handle the calls that were coming in from Washington and elsewhere.

“But you had everyone from the White House down with a new flavor of the day for prioritization,” he said.

In an interview on Thursday night, President Joe Biden rejected the 2,000-page report in which Vasely revealed this. When asked if the claims in the report “ring true” to him, Biden replied, “No. That’s not what I was told.”

“I just want to clarify, are you rejecting the conclusions, or the accounts that are in this Army report,” asked interviewer Lester Holt, to which Biden replied, “Yes, I am.”

“They are not true,” Holt pressed, at which time Biden said, “I am rejecting them.”

Biden has been hit with widespread backlash for his handling of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. During these efforts, 13 American service members were killed when a bomb exploded near an airport checkpoint in Kabul. Last week, the Pentagon concluded that this suicide bombing was “not preventable.”

Vasely revealed that by August 22 or 23, “it was clear we weren’t going to get all Americans out,” which led to high-level conversations about making the evacuation last beyond the end of August,” according to The New York Post. However, this idea was ultimately scrapped after the Taliban had a “visceral response” to the notion.

Many see the botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan as a low point in Biden’s disastrous presidency. This report will certainly do nothing to change that.
