It’s hard to find bipartisanship in America these days. But there’s one exception. Everyone from Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to Mercedes Schlapp of the American Conservative Union thinks the Chicago Teachers Union is a hideous enterprise.

FNC: “The Chicago Teachers Union defied the city’s order for school children to return to in-person learning this week, earning them a new round of bipartisan scorn from those who argue remote learning has done far more harm than good throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kids had been prepared to go back to the classroom this week following winter break. But in a Tuesday vote, 73% of the Chicago Teachers Union said they wanted to return to remote classes until the current spike in Covid cases ‘substantially subsides.’ The Omicron variant of the coronavirus has spread quickly through the country, yet has been reported to be milder than earlier variants. Younger people continue to be at far less risk of serious illness from it, and research continues to show the inconsistency in education the past two years has had detrimental effects on young adults’ mental health.” The union was trashed by those on both sides of the aisle as “selfish” and “malevolent.”

Steve Cortes: “The corrupt Chicago teachers union again crushes children — choosing emotion and selfishness over data and the well-being of hundreds of thousands of students, most of whom have no other options.”

Greg Price: “Teachers’ Unions are evil, malevolent forces on our country who have destroyed an entire generation of children and simply do not care.”

Mercedes Schlapp: “No other group of people in America demanded to be vaccinated and given billions of dollars as a condition of going back to work except for teachers’ unions. Even after getting everything they wanted, they are STILL going to deny thousands of children a proper education.”

Even Democrat pro David Axelrod had this to say: “The Chicago Teachers Union is about to vote to walk out rather than return to classrooms amid Omicron surge. I hope every teacher reads this column. What our kids have suffered thru long absences from classrooms already has had a devastating impact.” The jury is in. The Chicago Teachers Union is universally loathed.
