Just a few days ago, parents in Minnesota were outraged and shocked to find out that children were being taught transgender ideology at school. Some of the kids being taught were no older than 3. Sadly, this isn’t the only story about gender ideology being silently taught in schools around the country. While parents are visibility distraught, the Florida House Education and Employment Committee recently passed a bill that banned sexual orientation or gender ideology from being taught in any elementary classroom in the state.

Passing on Thursday, the “Parental Right in Education Bill” stated, “A school district may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.”

The bill also gave parents the power to institute an “injunctive relief” on a school district that continues to violate the rules.

Excited about the news, Florida House Republicans tweeted, “It is not the job of school administrators, teachers or counselors to replace the role of a parent. HB 1557 protects every parent’s right to a role in their child’s education, health and well-being.”

A Florida parent, January Littlejohn, added, “When parents are excluded from decisions affecting their child’s health and well-being at school, it sends the message to children that their parents’ input and authority are no longer important. This created a huge wedge between our daughter and us because it sent the message that she needed to be protected from us, not by us.”

Not everyone was thrilled about the move as Chasten Buttigieg, the husband to Pete Buttigieg, who is the Transportation Secretary, tweeted his disdain. “This will kill kids, @RonDeSantisFL. You are purposefully making your state a harder place for LGBTQ kids to survive in. In a national survey (@TrevorProject), 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide last year. Now they can’t talk to their teachers?”
