Like the Southern border, the economy, and COVID-19 vaccine, anything President Joe Biden appears to attach himself to – crumbles. And adding to that list is his outrageous Build Back Better plan that just a few weeks ago, he promised the American people would cost them nothing. Still, on top of the crazy $3.5 trillion. With such an outlandish price tag, and even more ludicrous stipulations, members of President Biden’s own party went against him. One of them was Senator Joe Manchin, who has been a constant barrier to the plan. Recently, Representative Cori Bush said she believed Manchin’s opposition was “anti-Black, anti-child, anti-woman, and anti-immigrant.”

Releasing a statement, Bush said, “Joe Manchin’s opposition to the Build Back Better Act is anti-Black, anti-child, anti-woman, and anti-immigrant. When we talk about transformative change, we are talking about a bill that will benefit Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. Those same communities are overwhelmingly excluded from the bipartisan infrastructure bill. We cannot leave anyone behind.”

Being a Democrat, Bush believed there was no room for compromise as she demanded, “Senator Manchin must support the Build Back Better Act.”

On Monday, Machin did call for Congress to approve the infrastructure proposal, but he would not budge when it came to other legislation. “Simply put, I will not support a bill that is this consequential without thoroughly understanding the impact that it’ll have on our national debt, our economy, and most importantly all of our American people.”

Manchin wasn’t the only target Bush had when she also attacked the energy companies. “For years you all have continued to promote fossil fuels despite knowing that promoting them means promoting environmental racism and violence in black and brown communities.” She added that they “promote and sell fossil fuels that are killing millions of people. This is a striking example of white supremacy. Your profit-driven choices threaten my life, the lives of my family, my neighbors, and our communities every single day.”

Bush ended her rant by again demanding something – their resignations. “Developing fossil fuels now given the escalation of the climate crisis and its harm on black and brown communities is unconscionable. Given each of your roles in these attacks on our humanity, you all should resign.”
