On Thursday, former Joe Biden campaign official Ashley Allison compared those who plan to attend the rally to support of Jan. 6 rioters to the Taliban.

The event is scheduled for this Saturday. Allison made her remarks during an interview on CNN.

Allison Sounds Off On Attendees

Allison said that the people who will be in attendance this Saturday have a “delusional fetish” about overthrowing the government.

“There is just a disconnect with reality,” Allison said.

“We know Joe Biden won the election, and these folks are showing up because on January 6, there was a group of people who wanted to overthrow our government and did not believe what voters actually decided to do,” she added.

Allison then compared rally participants to “Charlottesville neo-nazis” who “came back to Unite the Right.”

“But the thing that is so disgusting to me, is the same Republicans who will not condemn Saturday’s attendees or the rally, are the same ones blasting the Biden administration about Afghanistan. And when I look at the people who come on Saturday, I draw very close parallels to the Taliban,” Allison said.

She continued, “They are people who don’t have respect for democracy, they are people who don’t have respect for diverging ideas, and that is what people on January 6 stood for … and if you’re a Republican or Democrat and won’t condemn, shame on you.”

CNN’s Pamela Brown said it was a “very extreme example” to try to compare what is happening on Saturday to the “oppressive and violent regime” that is the Taliban.

Bush Compares Jan. 6 Rioters To al-Qaeda

During a memorial event on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 on Saturday, former President George W. Bush compared the January 6 rioters to al-Qaeda.

“We have seen growing evidence that the dangers to our country can come, not only across borders, but from violence that gathers within,” Bush said.

“There is little cultural overlaps between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home … they are children of the same foul spirit, and it is our continuing duty to confront them,” the former president added.
