Although Joe Biden is President, many have wondered about the role his Vice President, Kamala Harris, is playing. Even as the media tries to hide it, Biden struggles with the simplest of tasks. Making it through an entire press conference without fumbling or rewriting history is now breaking news. But what about Harris? Other than her run for President that was short-lived, handing out baked goods with her face on them, and abandoning the border, not much has been said. Well, that was until recently when over 20 former aides accused the VP of harboring a hostile work environment where staff is treated with utter disrespect.

Just in the last six months, which is her entire time as Vice President, Harris’s team has had major personal changeover. And according to reports by Politico, it all has to deal with Harris’s secret plans only known to a close group, and senior members shifting blame whenever something goes wrong.

Speaking to reporters, one former aide recalled the unhealthy conditions they had to deal with on a daily basis.“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment. It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s***.”

While what happens to her staff is Harris’s responsibility, many within her administration are blaming her Chief of Staff Tina Flournoy. A veteran Democrat, Flournoy once worked closely with former President Bill Clinton before joining Harris. Now, staff claim that Flournoy keeps tight control over Harris and every person she interacts with. Not to mention, she doesn’t convey plans or directions to the staff. They are mostly left in the dark unless being blamed for something out of their control. 

Although Flournoy might be to blame, one person close to Harris couldn’t help but say, “She’s [Harris] been in public life for 30 years. F***. You don’t just all of a sudden go radio silent. She is the most perceptive person on the planet. She might not have first-hand knowledge, but it’s hard to imagine she doesn’t have a sense of what’s going on.”

With reports of misconduct spreading, the White House has even started looking into the matter of how Harris treats her team. Still, senior adviser to Harris, Simone Sanders, fought against the narrative, claiming, “We are not making rainbows and bunnies all day. What I hear is that people have hard jobs and I’m like ‘welcome to the club.’ We have created a culture where people, if there is anything anyone would like to raise, there are avenues for them to do so. Whoever has something they would like to raise, they should raise it directly.”
