Kamala Harris praised the “sacrifice” of Texas Democrats currently hiding in a $200/night hotel after they fled their state in an attempt to avoid a vote on Republican election integrity bills in the state legislature.

“I know what you have done comes with great sacrifice, both personal and political,” Harris told the lawmakers.

“Defending the right of the American people to vote is as American as apple pie,” the Vice President said, adding that the Texas Democrats’  actions amounted to a “courageous stand.”

Over 50 Democrats fled Texas for Washington, D.C. earlier this week, hopping on a pair of flights chartered by the Texas House Democratic Caucus at a price tag of $100,000, breaking the possibility for quorum for the session.

A report by Texas News Today indicates just how much of a ‘sacrifice’ these Democrats are making.

“The group is staying at the Washington Plaza Hotel in Northwest D.C., where rooms start at $199 per night,” they write. “The hotel features a luxury outdoor pool and lounge surrounded by privacy greenery and trees.”

Kamala Harris Supports ‘Courageous’ Texas Democrats

Kamala Harris’ comments about the ‘courage’ of Texas Democrats as those very lawmakers spent all day soaking up media attention, posting pathetic images of their supposed sacrifices, and breaking out into melodramatic song.

How melodramatic? The self-styled martyrs actually broke out singing “We Shall Overcome” at a press conference.

The clown show that would make P.T. Barnum blush began with the dozens of Democrats posting a selfie of their bus ride to the airport featuring a case of Miller Lite in tow.

When Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Democrats would be arrested and returned to the capitol immediately upon returning to the state, Texas state Rep. Gene Wu (D) taunted him with a social media post lamenting his first meal as a “fugitive.”

“My (first) meal as a fugitive,” Wu tweeted.  “Delicious.”

Arrest These Cowards

The Texas Tribune reports that Republicans overwhelming cast a vote to “track down absent Democrats and arrest them if necessary” on Tuesday.

Republicans voted 76-4 in favor of a procedure known as ‘a call of the House’ to “compel the attendance of absent members.”

“The impact of the House move is unclear since Texas law enforcement lacks jurisdiction in the nation’s capital,” the Tribune explains.

Presumably, the Democrats would return to the state at some point, most likely after the special legislative session concludes.

Republican state Rep. Tony Tinderholt proposed stripping any Democrats on the lam of their committee leadership posts if they do not return by a certain time.

Abbott proposed something similar in an interview Tuesday.

“Of course any Democrat who is a member of any leadership, such as a chairman of a committee — they should be losing their job,” he said.

Abbott threatened to “continue calling special session after special session” to force the escapees to “step up to vote.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) blasted the Democrats for pretending their actions amounted to any type of ‘sacrifice’ as Kamala Harris suggests.

“There isn’t a single thing in these bills that is ‘voter suppression,'” Crenshaw added. “Texans should be furious, and vote all of these children out of office.”
