While California is still somehow fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, the city of San Francisco is also fighting its own war against – crime. It should come as no surprise that the liberal city is fighting a surge in thefts, burglaries, and violence when its own district attorney believes in a “criminal first” agenda. And if that didn’t already cripple law enforcement, now the media is actually making excuses for the criminals and why they choose to steal…

On Tuesday, footage of a shoplifter went viral as onlookers, including a security guard, stood by helplessly as an unidentified man filled a trash bag full of different items at a San Francisco Walgreens. Instead of intervening, the bystanders just watch as the thief causally bikes down the aisle and leaves the store. Not a word was said to the man.

Since going viral, the video made its rounds on liberal media outlets such as “CBS This Morning”, where co-host Tony Dokoupil defended the thief, saying, “Well, I mean, I don’t know. You don’t need to be a hero over some toothbrushes or whatever it is. … That reads also as an act of desperation. I mean, you’re not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens, you’re getting probably something you need.”

One of the onlookers happened to also be a reporter for KGO-TV, Lyanne Melendez, who recalled watching the man help himself to unpaid merchandise. She said, “It’s hard for me as a journalist to say ‘I won’t be involved, I can’t get involved,’ I have to be sort of neutral, but this is also my city. I live in this city, and I see this constantly. Not only Walgreens, but cars, and my garage … has been broken into twice.” She also added, “At what point do we say, ‘Enough is enough, we want our city back?'”

San Francisco Police Lt. Tracy McCray wasn’t that surprised by the video as she blasted District Attorney Chesa Boudin and his lackluster policies. “Not enough cops out. You try to put a cop at every corner, which is unrealistic. If you steal below $950, you get a citation and you just get to walk away and if you don’t show up to court, guess what, maybe you get a bench warrant or maybe they even toss that before it even gets to that point. Anybody can come in and do whatever they want.”
