A massive manhunt is underway in search of a man police say shot a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper in the head on Friday night near Mexia.

The trooper has been identified as Chad Walker by the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association.  Walker sustained injuries to both the head and abdomen and was flown to a local hospital where he is in stable, but critical condition. Chad Walker is a husband and father of four.

The association provided further information about the shooting, tweeting that Trooper Walker stopped behind a disabled vehicle and that before he could exit his vehicle the driver emerged and fired multiple rounds through Walker’s windshield, striking him.

Authorities issued a Blue Alert for the suspect, 37-year-old DeArthur Pinson Jr.  who reportedly shot the trooper at FM 2848 and Highway 84, according to DPS Sgt. Ryan Howard.  The DPS described DeArthur Pinson as a 6-foot-tall male black, weighing 220 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and facial hair. He was wearing glasses, a black hoodie and shorts with a stripe down the side. Pinson is considered armed and dangers and is still at large.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts may call 911 or 254-315-8287.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Trooper Chad Walker for a speedy and full recovery.
