Rep. Maxine Waters criticized the police once again in an interview today with California’s Spectrum News 1’s anchor Tanya McRae.
McRae started the exchange quoting Waters saying “riot is the voice of the unheard” after the 1992 Rodney King riots, and asked her “why do you think this country has such difficulty learning from history and making real changes when it comes to violence and injustice done to black people?”
Waters said, “I believe that it stems from the history of this country. It stems from slavery when whites were absolutely in charge, and they absolutely controlled the lives of people and their families. They decided to separate families and send the boys in one direction, the girls in another direction, the mothers to the big house. I mean, they’ve always been in charge. I think that this thinking about the need to control, the need to, you know, make sure that people stay in their place, so-called, has been, you know, what has basically what has happened in America all of these years and I think it continues in various ways. Sometimes a little bit more sophisticated ways.” “The police, I think really believe and in some ways are led to believe that their greatest challenge and their greatest chore is to keep black people in their place.”
“Auntie” Maxine is no stranger to the anti-police movement, even being caught on video last summer interfering with a traffic stop involving Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies investigating a burglary. “They stopped a brother so I stopped to see what they were doing,” Waters said in the video, pointing to a deputy standing next to a patrol car.
Waters has taken to Twitter in the past to spew hate towards police after officer involved shootings. This tweet is about Jacob Blake, who pulled a knife on a police officer and was shot.
Another unarmed black man, shot in the back, by a WI police officer! No matter the outrage at the killing of George Floyd by a police officer, knee on his neck, the killing of black men continues. Is this a defiance by the police that indicates they don’t intend to stop?

This tweet was after an Atlanta Police Officer shot Rayshard Brooks after fighting with him, they had a taser taken from them, and Brooks shot the taser at them during a foot pursuit.
Watch the video of the killing of #RayshardBrooks. A senseless & needless killing by a murderous cop! Police reform is NOT ENOUGH. Getting rid of serial, racist, ignorant, & stupid cops must be a top priority. Let’s call them out! Police protective unions, you’ve got to go too!
