The area around the national Capitol today looks like the United States is governed by a brass hat dictatorship. The razor fencing and military appearance around the Hill is a message Democrats want to send to America.

It has nothing to do with any threat faced by Congress. It has nothing to do with the assault on the Capitol. It has everything to do with the lust Democrats have for the trappings of authoritarian power and how badly they want to keep it. Through virus restrictions and this fence Democrats are saying to America: We treat you like sheep and remind you we have the guns to fence you off from people who are supposed to represent you. Welcome to us in charge.

There are those who are speaking out against the razor fence. Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, as usual, is among the most eloquent.

Gingrich:”Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s fence around the U.S. Capitol is an eyesore, an insult to the American people, and an embarrassment for the United States around the world. At least one Democrat has been brave enough to do something about it. Washington, D.C., Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has introduced a bill ‘No Fencing at the Capitol.’  Holmes Norton says correctly that ’permanent fencing would send an un-American message to the nation and the world, by transforming our democracy from one that is accessible and of the people to one that is exclusive and fearful of its own citizens.’

The Washington Post editorialized against a permanent fence saying it would ‘deface’ the U.S. Capitol. Just the News reported that House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said, ‘I haven’t seen any credible information whatsoever that we would need all the fencing and all the guardsmen that are still there… They need to go home.’ Arizona Republican Andy Biggs noted the hypocrisy of liberals who wanted to tear down the wall between the United States and Mexico while keeping a permanent fence around the Capitol, saying ‘[t]he same people who tell me that fences don’t work on the border want to have this fence and turn the Capitol into a military compound.’ I hope every American will call your House and Senate members today and urge them to cosponsor the ‘No Fencing at the United States Capitol Complex Act.’ Also, send a note to Delegate Holmes Norton congratulating and thanking her for her leadership and courage. The U.S. Capitol belongs to the American people – not the political aristocracy.”

The virtual military occupation of Capitol Hill. That’s what Nancy Pelosi has brought to Washington and she rationalizes it by citing January 6th. She is lying, but January 6th does give her a fig leaf to hide behind. It’s another reminder of the combined malevolence of Pelosi and the rioters of the 6th.
