A fact of political life in America is that many Americans sadly see abortion as a convenience, even a right. Though no such right exists under the Constitution. But, a saving grace is that a majority of Americans do not think tax dollars should be used to promote abortions in foreign countries. However, that’s just what the Biden administration is doing and announced it on Thursday.

FNC: “The White House announced Thursday morning that President Biden will sign an executive order rescinding a rule known as the Mexico City policy which prohibits foreign non-governmental organizations from receiving U.S. funding if they promote or perform abortion as a method of family planning. The policy, first turned into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1985 and announced at a UN conference in Mexico City, has been repealed by Democratic presidents and reinstated by Republicans for decades. Biden’s order will come almost four years to the day since former President Donald Trump signed an order that revived it.”

“Across the country and around the world, people — particularly women, Black, Indigenous and other people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and those with low incomes — have been denied access to reproductive health care,” the White House said in a statement. The administration claims it will “protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care…The memorandum reflects the policy of the Biden-Harris Administration to support women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States, as well as globally.” That is leftist gibberish and they are playing to extremists. The Biden administration will pay a political price for this move.

In fact, a recent Marist poll showed that 58% of Americans oppose or strongly oppose using taxpayer dollars to support abortion. That included 65% of Independents and 31% of Democrats. A second question asked, “Do you strongly support, support, oppose, or strongly oppose using tax dollars to support abortion in other countries?” A majority of Americans (77%) opposed or strongly opposed that proposition, including 64% who identified as “pro-choice.” Those are not good numbers for Biden.

The leader of the Senate prolife caucus, Republican Steve Daines of Montana, comments, “President Biden’s decision to reverse critical pro-life policies at home and abroad shows a complete lack of respect for the sanctity of human life…These actions will enrich Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry at the taxpayers’ expense, while endangering the most vulnerable. The United States should not be promoting a radical abortion agenda throughout the world, we should be leading the fight to protect the unborn and all life.”

Abortion is a touchy subject in American politics. There are significant numbers of Republicans, especially the young and the libertarian-minded, who are pro-choice. There are socially conservative Democrats who are pro-life. But the case is clear, a majority opposes Joe Biden on taxpayer funded abortions here or in foreign countries.
