The hilariously absurd part about Democrat claims that the president was a Russian stooge is that Donald Trump has stood up to the Kremlin more than any Democrat since Lyndon Johnson has dreamed of. The president again hit the Russians where it hurt on Sunday, knowing their economy can never keep up in a defense tech race, and is pulling out of a treaty due to regular Russian cheating.
FNC: “The United States officially pulled out of another arms control pact with Russia on Sunday, marking the end of a six-month notification process informing Moscow, U.S. officials told Fox News. The Trump administration withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty, which was signed between former Cold War foes in 1992 to set up unarmed, reconnaissance flights over each other’s territory to collect data on military forces. However, the U.S. has accused Russia of violating the agreement for years, barring flights over Russian territory, including Kaliningrad where nuclear weapons are suspected of being present and in range of major European capitals.”
Today, pursuant to earlier notice provided, the United States withdrawal from the Treaty on Open Skies is now effective. America is more secure because of it, as Russia remains in non-compliance with its obligations.

“On May 22, 2020, the United States exercised its right pursuant to paragraph 2 of Article XV of the Treaty on Open Skies by providing notice to the Treaty Depositaries and to all States Parties of its decision to withdraw from the Treaty, effective six months from the notification date,” Cale Brown, a spox for the State Department, said. “Six months having elapsed, the U.S. withdrawal took effect on November 22, 2020, and the United States is no longer a State Party to the Treaty on Open Skies.”
The Pentagon said previously that “it has become abundantly clear that it is no longer in the United States’ best interest to remain a party to this treaty when Russia does not uphold its commitments.”
SecState Mike Pompeo, who is said to be eyeing elective office in Kansas, said, “While the United States, along with our Allies and partners that are States Parties to the treaty, have lived up to our commitments and obligations under the treaty, Russia has flagrantly and continuously violated the treaty in various ways for years…This is not a story exclusive to just the treaty on Open Skies, unfortunately, for Russia has been a serial violator of many of its arms control obligations and commitments.” Oh yeah, totally Russian puppets
This move is one of many the president is executing during the last months of his first term to safeguard his legacy and try and protect the nation the best he is able at this point from the inevitable depredations of the Biden administration. In this case, the alleged Russian tool Trump pulls out of a pro-Russian treaty, while the incoming Democrats, who believe making America weak is better for world peace, will very possibly renegotiate the treaty much to benefit of Vladimir Putin. They may consider it a favor to a man who was on the same side they were in the Cold War.
