Federal Election Commission (FEC) data indicates Rep. Ilhan Omar’s campaign has paid her husband’s firm over $2.7 million during the 2019-2020 election cycle.
Records show that the campaign committee provided significant cash flow to the E Street Group, a political consulting firm founded by Tim Mynett.
Fox News reports that Mynett’s group was sent $1.6 million from the start of 2019 through Jul. 22, 2020, on top of $1.1 million in the third quarter and an additional $27,000 in the following weeks.
The third-quarter numbers represent nearly 70% of the entire amount spent by Omar’s campaign during that period.

What Did Ilhan Omar’s Campaign Pay Her Husband Tim Mynett For?
According to the Fox report, Omar’s campaign paid her husband’s firm for a vast array of services such as “cable advertising, ‘digital consulting,’ video production, and editing.”
The Daily Mail indicates that fees were also paid for travel expenses of about $2,700.
“Consulting” fees are exorbitant, the Mail writes, with “a total of $86,500 for ‘digital consulting’ and ‘fundraising consulting.'”

Omar announced that she and Mynett had married earlier this year, after spending months initially denying accusations from his former wife and the media that they were having an affair.

Funneling Money To Her Husband’s Firm – Is It Legal?
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune back in April, Mynett’s group had already been paid exorbitant sums for “advertising, fundraising, travel and other services.”
The newspaper reported that “the law doesn’t prohibit hiring a spouse for a federal campaign and it’s not unheard of for candidates and members of Congress to employ and pay relatives through their committees.”
And she has consistently defended her actions on social media.

That said, the Tribune noted in March that her “relationship with Mynett is at the center of a Federal Election Commission complaint alleging that money Omar’s campaign committee paid to Mynett and his firm for travel expenses were for personal use.”
Omar: Progressives Ready To Fill Biden’s Cabinet
Omar, in an interview with Axios, said that progressives like she and the “Squad” are waiting to fill Joe Biden’s cabinet and will push him to “act accordingly” on several policies.
The Minnesota Democrat believes “all of the cabinet positions should be filled by progressive Democrats.”
“A president is only as successful as his collaboration is with Congress,” Omar explained.
“And we will have a cohort of progressives that are very clear about their objectives for wanting the implementation of, you know, Medicare For All and a Green New Deal and raising the minimum wage and not allowing for fracking,” she continued.
Last year, the Tribune reported on documents raising questions as to whether she previously married her own brother as a means to “skirt immigration laws.”
In January, Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher indicated investigations by the Department of Education and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) involved allegations of “perjury, immigration fraud, tax fraud, student loan fraud, and possibly bigamy.”
Omar easily won re-election last week.
