While appearing on the Howard Stern show on Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that he would have “decked” President Donald Trump if not for his position as governor.

Cuomo said of his tumultuous relationship with Trump, “I bit my tongue so many times I have tongue scars.”

Tough Guy Cuomo: ‘If I Wasn’t Governor Of New York, I Would’ve Decked Him. Period’

“Here’s the trick, Howard,” Cuomo said to the host. “I want to speak to the better angels. I want to lift people up and I want to show Trump for what he is by opposition.”

Cuomo also admitted he needed the Trump administration’s assistance. Cuomo was on the show to promote his new book “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons From the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“I also had the practical situation: I needed him to help New York,” Cuomo said. “That was my job.”

Then Cuomo went tough guy.

“If I wasn’t Governor of New York, I would’ve decked him. Period,” he said. “He was attacking me. He was attacking my family. He was anti-Italian. He was every nasty thing.”

Anti-Italian? Attacking his family?

Wasn’t his brother Chris Cuomo threatening someone for calling him “Fredo?”

Governor Says ‘Fredo’ Is An ‘Ethnic Slight’

Andrew Cuomo said using “Fredo” to describe Italians, which Trump has done regarding Chris Cuomo, is a “very sensitive to all ethnic slight.”

Obviously, Fredo is the traitorous brother in The Godfather 2.

“It’s not funny,” Cuomo told Stern. “First, the mafia stereotype has been such a stain for Italians for so long —and that’s where they go when they want to get cheap and nasty.”

The governor said he confronted Trump about the supposed slight on his brother.

“I said to him, ‘You want to attack me? Attack me,” Cuomo said. “I don’t have a problem with that, but why are you bringing my brother into it? He’s just doing his job.”

Cuomo added, “Take away that word governor for 24 hours, I would have had a field day with him,” referring to Trump.

In April, Cuomo Praised Trump For Helping New York

Cuomo is involved in some serious revisionist history here.

In March and April, when the Trump administration was working with Cuomo to help New York during the pandemic, the governor had a very different message and tone.

In fact, Cuomo praised Trump for helping New York, on Stern’s show, no less.

“He has delivered for New York. He has,” Cuomo said of Trump, after Stern asked if the President had really helped.

“By and large it has worked,” Cuomo said of the cooperation between himself and Trump.

That is a VERY different message than saying he wanted to punch him in the face.
