Thursday night’s Republican National Convention finale was the best show of all the episodes. The GOP wisely saved their biggest guns for the last impression and ended the night with a spectacular fireworks display of political eloquence and impressive pyrotechnics that lit up the D.C. Mall sky with patriotism.

Another excellent video opened up the festivities, followed by an invocation by Rev. Franklin Graham. The evangelical vote should be strong for President Trump, as this was the most faith-friendly national political convention in modern history.

Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) then led with a sharp video and Ja’ron Smith, an accomplished African American White House staffer, gave a sincere plea for the president. The emphasis on the black vote during this convention has Trump topping 35% with black voters, according to a new Zogby poll. If that’s true it’s a political earthquake.

It also is interesting that the GOP is making a serious pitch to Democrats. The Democrats themselves ignored Republican voters during their convention. The Republicans also are targeting single moms. That’s a gutsy move, as that’s far from the traditional GOP base.

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes was the emerging star on Thursday. He joins Kimberly Klacik and Madison Cawthorn on the list of Republicans to soon be reckoned with.

Then the best speech of this (or perhaps any) convention was given by police Sergeant Ann Dorn, widow of St. Louis police Captain David Dorn. Her at times tearful eulogy of her courageous husband, who was killed by thugs during an Antifa riot, was the emotional apogee of the convention. She was soon followed by the parents of Kayla Mueller. Kayla was a young humanitarian aid worker killed by the Islamic Caliphate while she was being held hostage. In a raw and wrenching speech, her parents made sure she will be remembered and honored. Both Ann Dorn and the Muellers aided the president’s message immeasurably.

Rudy Giuliani followed with the best attack of the convention against Joe Biden, and Tom Cotton gave a lawyerly dissertation on the danger of putting Democrats in charge of national security. Alice Johnson, the former prison inmate and current activist who Friday was given a full pardon by the president, gave an emotional and rousing cry from the heart for Donald Trump. Again, a strong and poignant black voice likely added to the president’s support from black voters.

The penultimate speech of the convention was given by presidential daughter Ivanka Trump. Looking stunningly beautiful and speaking like a power in her own right, Ivanka Trump laid out a convincing and reasonable case for her father. She did it with charisma and power. Thus another Trump has a great future in American politics.

The president followed his daughter and gave a good speech. His delivery was conversational, as that is his best style, and his words were superb in tone and feeling. He laid out a stark choice in this election and pulled no punches in his descriptions of the socialist Democrats and their domestic terrorist pals. The evening ended with song and a tremendous fireworks display over the Mall. It was a very good convention, but the hard lifting still needs to be done. The race is by no means decided yet. Not even close. Thus to all those who think the president has this thing put away already, two words from 2018 should give you serious pause: Red Tsunami.
