Leaders in the Democratic Party have publicly admitted their nominee Joe Biden cannot stand up to President Donald Trump in debate. Now they’re making up reasons to cover their cowardice. But this brings up the question: If Biden can’t handle a presidential debate, how could he handle a world leader in a crisis situation? The Democrats are admitting, he couldn’t.

“I don’t think that there should be any debates,” Pelosi said unexpectedly at a news conference at the Capitol Thursday afternoon. She insisted she doesn’t want the debates to be “an exercise in skullduggery.”

“I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him, nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States. Now I know that the Biden campaign thinks in a different way about this… So I think that he’ll probably act in a way that is beneath the dignity of the presidency; he does that every day. But I think it will also belittle what the debates are supposed to be about. And they’re not to be about skullduggery on the part of somebody who has no respect for the office he holds, much less the democratic process. Why else would he try to undermine the elections in the manner in which he is doing? So, if Joe Biden asked me what I thought about it, [I’d say] I don’t think that he should dignify that conversation with Donald Trump.”

Biden said as of last week, “As long as the [debate] commission continues down the straight and narrow as they have, I’m going to debate him.” Notice the qualification. He is already looking for an out.

Biden went on, “I’m going to be a fact-checker on the floor as I’m debating him.”

“We certainly agree with Speaker Pelosi on her views of the President’s behavior,” said Biden campaign spox Andrew Bates. “But just as she has powerfully confronted that behavior in the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room, Joe Biden looks forward to doing the same on the debate stage.” Joe Biden, a fact checker. Right.

Team Trump noticed their trembling trepidation.

The Democrat no-debate strategy was launched last month in an Elizabeth Drew article in The New York Times. Drew said, “The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership. In fact, one could argue that they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president. When we were serious about the presidency, we wanted intelligence, thoughtfulness, knowledge, empathy and, to be sure, likability. It should also go without saying, dignity… Yet the debates play an outsize role in campaigns and weigh more heavily on the verdict than their true value deserves. Over time, the debates came to resemble professional wrestling matches, and more substantive debates were widely panned in the press. Points went to snappy comebacks and one-liners. Witty remarks drew laughs from the audience and got repeated for days and remembered for years.” Wow. She is really scared. Her last lines are her personal prediction of a debate outcome between Biden and the president. Biden is implicitly the loser.

The Democrats then piled on. “Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” Democrat player Joe Lockhart wrote on CNN‘s website. “Trump has made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements, according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.” Again the admission, “impossible contest to win.” The president’s son has their number.

We’ll see on September 29th. Smart money says Biden chickens out. If he does, watch Trump’s poll position tie him and then move up in October. The American people don’t want an intellectual and rhetorical weakling as president. If Joe Biden shows himself to be those by running and hiding from a debate, he’ll deserve every lost point in the polls. So will his idiotic campaign team. That is, unless they know much better than we do how mentally enfeebled Biden really is. Then perhaps, it’s the only thing they can do.
