Jessica Simpson recalls confronting woman who sexually abused her as a child

The singer Jessica Simpson just spoke after recalling confronting the woman who sexually abused her as a child, and to explain how her new memoir “Open Book” helped her to heel.

In the book, which was released in February, the 40-year-old singer shocked her fans by revealing that she was sexually abused by the daughter of a family friend starting when she was only 6 years old. Simpson explained that she shared a bed with her abuser whenever the family friend would visit the home.

While appearing on Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt’s podcast “The Gift of Forgiveness,” Simpson talked about confronting her abuser, revealing that she even sent her a copy of her memoir.

“I would say about eight years ago I confronted her,” Simpson said, according to Fox News. “I went to her and I just said, ‘I know you know what was going on and I know that you were being abused’ because she was being abused by an older guy. Basically, he was always there at the house as well. He never touched me but he would abuse her and then she would come to me and do the stuff to me. In so many ways, I felt bad for her and I was allowing the abuse to happen.”

The singer remembered telling her abuser that she knew she had “a lot to deal with” and begged her that she “should probably talk to someone.” Simpson added that this was around the time that she divorced Nick Lachey, an experience that sent her “soul searching” and caused her to no longer want to “live in denial” about what happened.

“I was just in that place where I was celibate and on this journey to explore myself and I knew I couldn’t move forward without letting her know,” Simpson explained.

She also said that the abuser continued to remain in her life. “I even sent her the book and I told her that I hope it brings healing,” Simpson said.

The singer has revealed that the abuse ended six years after it began, when she told her parents about it.

“Right after that, they took action and I never had to go back,” she said.

These days, life is better than ever for Simpson, as she is married to former NFL star Eric Johnson. Together, they are parents to three children: daughters Maxwell Drew, 8, Birdie Mae, 1, and son, Ace Knute, 7.

“In terms of my marriage to Eric, I have never felt more myself or more free,” Simpson said earlier this year. “Eric and I have a true mind, body [and] soul connection.”
