Chronic protests evolving into full-scale riots and raucous rallies depicted yet another zany episode of crass human behavior as Gary Wicks, a D.C. real-estate agent, was video-recorded calling black D.C. Metropolitan police officers the “N-Word.” According to The Washingtonian, Wicks has since lost his job as a result of the widely-circulated videotaped rant.

In the video, Wicks blames the unidentified police officers, who appear to be black, for the hit his business took during the days of protests over police brutality. In the outrageous video, Wicks claims his anger stems from the police killing of George Floyd. But Wicks’ rant quickly takes an unusual turn: he says he’s a victim. The protests over the killing, he says, have disrupted his business. “You f**king n*****s killed a guy. I had a practice that I built up for 20 years. Because of you cops, you killed a guy,” Wicks yells.

“Who?” asks one of the unidentified officers, who appears to be black. “George Floyd,” responds Wicks, who then continues to antagonize the officers. The officer points out that Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, and the man says that “the culture of cops killed this guy and as a result the whole city’s shut down because of you people.” The officer asks, “So, what does that have to do with the N-word?” Wicks yells, “Because it bothers you!”

Wicks continued, “The whole city shut down because of you people. Follow me all you want. You’ve got the guns. You can shoot me. … Fucking n****r cops. … You ruined my life.” You can watch the video below:

A police spokeswoman confirmed to the Tampa Dispatch that the officers in the video are with D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department. “Our members remained composed and responded professionally in what could only be described as hateful speech,” she wrote in an email to the publication. “Even in the face of this repugnant tirade, our members maintained their professional composure and attempted to deescalate the citizen’s agitated demeanor,” the group said in a statement. “MPD officers regularly face this kind of hateful behavior which is being exasperated by the current rhetoric that falsely claims that our members are consistently engaged in misconduct. We want to use this opportunity to remind the citizens of the District that the officers of this city do not have the same problems that exist in other jurisdictions and this video is a testament to that.”

Wicks’ employer, Washington Fine Properties, also issued a statement announcing they’d terminated their relationship with Wicks after learning about their employee’s tirade.

It’s astonishing to think that anti-cop Wicks appears to believe his business would fair better without law enforcement, especially in a high-crime place like Washington, D.C. It looks like he will have a lot of free time to reflect on his actions in the coming weeks and months since he’s now out of a job because of his raucous behavior.
