Statistics released by the New York Police Department (NYPD) on Thursday showed a spike in the city’s murder rate during the month of May, as riots continued following the death of George Floyd. The city is quickly returning to a time of completely ineffective government, financial crisis, spiraling out of control crime, and political stagnancy covered over with left-wing platitudes. Gone are all the reforms and improvements made in the life of New Yorkers by GOP Mayor Rudy Giuliani and continued by Republican Michael Bloomberg in the 1990s and beyond. Now, the clock is set back to the 1970s/1980s and the sclerotic days of Democrat mayors Abe Beame and David Dinkins.

The numbers showed that murders in the city had increased by 79 percent, CBS 2 reported. Shootings went up by 64 percent and burglaries reportedly rose by 34 percent. Much of the increase are in areas not affected by the riots. That means that the general life of the city is taking a turn for the worse. Combined with the race-hustling from city hall and the effects of the virus and shutdown regulations, this is a perfect storm of renewed urban degradation for the citizens of New York City. However, lest your pity be wasted, New York voters, Democrats by large margins, voted this government into office. They were warned from many quarters what giving the keys of Gracie Mansion to a Marxist would mean and they did it anyway. Now, they pay for their bad political judgment. And I say this as a native New Yorker and a threefer minority.

On top of those numbers Mayor de Blasio, as tweeted above, has decided to disband his plain clothes undercover anti-crime force because violent rioters deemed them “racist.” Why are they allegedly racist? Because a large percentage of those who were arrested for violent felonies in NYC were minorities. The question poses itself: Are the police racist or are members of certain racial and ethnic groups committing a large percentage of the crimes? The disband was also done in coordination with the “defund the police” movement.

That news is ironic, as the newly defunded police have to deal with the specific defunding of the anti-crime unit just one day after a Queens man was charged after he attempted to light an NYPD vehicle on fire last week amid wider riots in the city. Victor Sanchez-Santa, 19, was arrested in his home around 6:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with attempted arson. He faces up to 20 years in prison if he’s found guilty.

Sanchez-Santas was just the latest suspect to be arrested for firebombing a police car. A pair of Ivy League lawyers, Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman, from a prestigious Manhattan law firm, were charged earlier this month with pitching a Molotov cocktail into an unoccupied New York City police cruiser.
