Former NFL player and part of the Oakland Raiders 1980 Super Bowl champion team, Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) slammed the “cowards and Marxists” who forced quarterback Drew Brees to apologize for the crime of respecting the American flag.

Brees, the longtime signal-caller for the New Orleans Saints, has been the subject of intense criticism since taking a stand against kneeling protests during the national anthem.

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” he said.

After a barrage of backlash via social media, Brees was forced to apologize because, apparently, patriotism and respect for our military men and women have to be completely abandoned over a handful of rogue police officers in Minnesota.

Owens, in an appearance with Fox News personality Tucker Carlson, slammed those who criticized Brees for his beliefs as “bullies” and suggested this type of forced thought out of the Left will lead to another four years of President Donald Trump.

“What you’re seeing here is exactly why President Trump will be reelected once again,” Owens told Tucker.

“Americans don’t like bullies. They don’t like people who demand that we disrespect our flag, our country.”

These bullies —specifically the media and the far-left— have been rewriting history ever since the tragic murder of George Floyd. Colin Kaepernick was right all along to have kneeled during the anthem, they want you to think.

And if anybody diverges from that line of thought (as Brees did), then they are going to pay dearly.

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

“Those who understand who he [Brees] is, they know he’s not a racist and at the same time, people like myself, I will call these people out for who they are,” Burgess continued.

“They are bullies and cowards and Marxists. Period. And I’m one of those guys that will never, ever apologize for pride in my country,” he added.

Brees has been a target of the radical Left thought police in the past, drawing fire last year after he took part in a video encouraging Christian students to participate in Bring Your Bible to School Day. He was forced to issue a clarification on his commitment to equality back then as well, after a mob of leftists online labeled him “anti-gay.”

That makes Brees 2-for-2 in backing down on his personal beliefs. This is the same man who was named Sportsmen of the Year in 2010 for helping to rebuild the city of New Orleans and the black community following Hurricane Katrina.

Ronald Markham, the African American CEO of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, called Brees “an honorary brother” at the time, saying “he transcends race, and he does it with class and dignity.”

Now he’s being branded a racist for standing up for the American flag. A flag which, mind you, has nothing to do with what happened to George Floyd.
