Democrats and the Left were hot to trot when coronavirus social distancing edicts gave them the power to control the movement of people and shut down businesses. But when armed looters, arsonists, and killers took to the streets of America to vent their dark psyches, the same Democrats cheered them on. The hypocrisy, even by Democrat standards, was amazing. And now, they’ve doubled back on the GOP convention.

But then the Left doesn’t feel it has to abide by any notion of truth or consistency as long as their press pals don’t call them out on it. What they have overlooked is the common sense of the American people who know a scam when they see it.

On Monday, Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) said on Twitter that she had attended a “Healing and Hope” rally “to speak with our community as America grieves.”

But on Thursday she sang a different tune. “The president’s plan to hold mass rallies in Florida and elsewhere as we experience a resurgence in COVID cases is irresponsible and selfish,” Demings opined, without any reference to what she had just said days earlier. Such is how the Orwellian memory hole works for authoritarians.

Then a week ago, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, an independent who fought for the Democrat presidential nomination, tweeted: “Congratulations to all who are out on the streets today peacefully protesting. Together, we will end police brutality. Together, we will defeat Trump. Together, we will fight for a government based on justice and compassion, not greed and lies.”

But now? “Trump wants 15,000 delegates cheering him at his GOP convention in Florida,” the losing socialist said, referring to Trump’s new convention site. “No social distancing. His rejection of medical advice endangers not only those there but those they come in contact with. Trump’s a threat to the health and well-being of the country. He must be defeated.”

The Daily Caller‘s Logan Hall hit it right on the head: “Don’t take anyone stressing ‘social distance’ seriously if they were silent on protesters nationwide violating stay at home orders and social distancing guidelines.” But wait, there’s more!

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) had previously lambasted protesters who were calling to reopen his state: “you have no right to jeopardize my health…and my children’s health and your children’s health.” Then, when the ploy no longer met his goals Cuomo said he “stands” with those defying stay-at-home orders: “Nobody is sanctioning the arson, and the thuggery and the burglaries, but the protesters and the anger and the fear and the frustration? Yes. Yes, and the demand is for justice.” A conservative wag gets the drift.

People across the nation shake their heads and marvel at Democrats in this regard, for the Democrats say one thing one day and the opposite the next. It recalls their very recent fear of Russia. When during the Cold War Russians threatened America with nukes, far-left Democrats were for surrender and appeasement of the Russians. No? Remember House Speaker Jim Wright’s “Dear Commandante” letter? Remember all the anti-nuke hysteria that demanded the U.S. unilaterally disarm but did not ask the same from the Russians? But when they thought, just as now, they could get hypocritical political mileage out of it, the Russians were no longer the soft and cuddly peace-loving bear cub. Today they shriek Russia is a threat to our very republic. Okay.
