Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) owes $2,088.78 in unpaid corporate taxes for a failed business venture from 2016, according to public records.

Per the New York Post, these public records show the state dissolved the company, Brook Avenue Press, in October 2016. The state can make such a move when a business fails to pay corporate taxes or file a return. The state Tax Department then filed a warrant against her now-defunct business on July 6, 2017 over a $1,618.36 unpaid bill. As of Friday, the tax warrant had still not been satisfied and the outstanding balance had grown to $2,088.78, the department said.

“She just thinks she’s better than everyone else. Clearly, she’s worse,” said Hank Sheinkopf, spokesman for AOC’s chief June primary-race opponent, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, to the New York Post. Ocasio-Cortez’s camp, however, says the representative is challenging the $2,088.78 bill “because it was issued in error.” According to AOC spokeswoman Lauren Hitt, “The congresswoman is still in the process of contesting the tax warrant. The business has been closed for several years now, and so we believe that the state Tax Department has continued to collect the franchise tax in error.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been one of the loudest voices demanding President Trump release his tax returns for the last three-and-a-half years. It’s amazing how someone who is delinquent in taxes themselves has the audacity to harass others on the subject. If Ocasio-Cortez even got wind of the possibility that Trump did not pay taxes, she would be the first in line screaming to impeach him. What makes her better than anyone else that has not paid their taxes?

Typically, the government is far more aggressive about collecting taxes owed. It makes one wonder how Ocasio-Cortez has managed to avoid that particular consequence. She appears to be joining an “elite” crowd of tax dodgers from New York: Al Sharpton and Charlie Rangel, to name two.

It’s time for a congressional committee to take a look at all her past tax returns. No telling what nefarious schemes she might have gotten away with. Who knows – she may have had help from the Russians to start that business.

Ocasio-Cortez, a first-term incumbent, will face Democratic voters in the June 23 primary in the 14th Congressional District covering portions of The Bronx and Queens.
