Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has found herself in trouble today after it was revealed that her own husband demanded special treatment before the Memorial Day weekend.

Governor Whitmer has become infamous for putting in place some of the strictest coronavirus lockdown orders in the nation, urging residents to stay away from the state’s northern areas, which are seen as the best vacation spots.

“If you don’t live in these regions…think long and hard before you take a trip into them,” Whitmer said last week.

However, this did not stop Whitmer’s husband Marc Mallory from using his position as husband of the governor to try and get his boat into Lake Michigan before the Memorial Day weekend. Tad Dowker, owner of NorthShore Dock LLC, just north of Traverse City, spoke out on Facebook to claim that Mallory called his business last week.

“This morning, I was out working when the office called me, there was a gentleman on hold who wanted his boat in the water before the weekend,” Dowker wrote in a Facebook post that is no longer public, according to The Detroit News.

“Being Memorial [Day] weekend and the fact that we started working three weeks late means there is no chance this is going to happen,” he added. “Well our office personnel had explained this to the man and he replied, ‘I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?'”

Dowker reportedly told Mallory that his request could not be completed, which appeared to be a response that satisfied him. Republicans have since expressed outrage over what Mallory did, saying that Whitmer’s own family members are trying to get around her rules. “In the Army, we have a tradition that the leaders get in line for chow last behind everyone else in the unit,” said state Sen. Tom Barrett (R). “Here is the leader of our state. … Her family is trying to cut people in line.”

Whitmer responded to the scandal through her spokeswoman Tiffany Brown, who said that the governor’s office wouldn’t respond to “every rumor that is spread online.”

“Our practice is not to discuss the governor’s or her family’s personal calendar/schedules. And we’re not going to make it a practice of addressing every rumor that is spread online,” Brown said. “There’s been a lot of wild misinformation spreading online attacking the governor and her family, and the threats of violence against her personally are downright dangerous.”

This is a prime example of the hypocrisy of the modern Democratic Party. They want to dictate how the rest of us live our lives, but they don’t want to have to follow their rules themselves. “Rules for thee, but not for me” indeed…
