Speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Attorney General William Barr called the Russia probe of President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign “one of the greatest travesties in American history.”

Barr was referencing an ongoing probe being conducted by U.S. Attorney John Durham into the origins of the investigation.

He noted that President Trump “has every right to be frustrated,” calling the collusion witch hunt an attempt “to sabotage the presidency.”

“What happened to him was one of the greatest travesties in American history,” Barr told Ingraham. “Without any basis, they started this investigation of his campaign. And even more concerning, actually, is what happened after the campaign.”

“A whole pattern of events while he was president…to sabotage the presidency,” he added. “Or at least have the effect of sabotaging the presidency.”

Barr added that he doesn’t believe these actions constitute simple mistakes. He warned that if people are found to have broken the law, “they will be prosecuted.”

“My own view is that the evidence shows that we’re not dealing with just the mistakes or sloppiness,” the attorney general revealed. “There was something far more troubling here. We’re going to get to the bottom of it. And if people broke the law and we can establish that with the evidence, they will be prosecuted,” concluded Barr.

Prior to Barr’s interview with Ingraham, fellow Fox News personality Sean Hannity predicted we would see “major developments” coming out of Durham’s review of the Russia investigation. “There’s so many developments with this deep state,” said Hannity. “Wow. It’s about to blow wide open.” Barr’s comments appear to be indicating that it is indeed about to get interesting.

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz issued a report in December stating the FBI did not act with political bias in conducting their probe. Many Republicans were disappointed in the report, which seemed to provide ample evidence to the contrary. In it, Horowitz excoriated former FBI Director James Comey for violating department policies in leaking FBI memos to a friend and instructing them to turn the material over to The New York Times.

It also accused him of setting “a dangerous example” and made it very clear that Comey took such dangerous steps “in order to achieve a personally desired outcome.” That outcome was to kick-start the entire Special Counsel investigation into alleged Russian collusion.

Former South Carolina Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy responded to the report at the time. “Horowitz says there was no bias in the inception,” he explained. “There was a lot of bias from every point thereafter, including an FBI lawyer manufacturing evidence to get a surveillance warrant against an American citizen.”

Gowdy opined that the actions undertaken by Comey’s FBI were criminal in nature. “If you’re changing e-mails, manufacturing, altering evidence,” he said, “not only do you not have any business being an FBI agent or law enforcement [officer], you probably ought to be wearing an orange jumpsuit.” Do Barr’s statements portend just that?
