A horrifying video is going viral this week showing a man wearing a medical mask sucker punch an officer with the NYPD from behind, only to have a crowd of onlookers cheer him on as he makes his escape.

Nelson Jimenez, 31, attacked the officer on Tuesday night in front of a crowd of bystanders who had gathered on the corner of 183rd Street and Davidson Avenue in University Heights to watch the arrest of 27 year-old robbery suspect Yoemdy Castro, sources told the New York Post. The video opens with one officer holding Castro on the ground while another cop stands off to the side.

Suddenly, Jimenez approaches the standing officer from behind and punches him in the back of the head so hard that he knocks off his winter hat. The officer who was hit reacts quickly and fires his taser, but it is not clear if it actually hit Jimenez.

Instead of helping the assaulted officer, bystanders can be heard cheering on Jimenez and telling him to “run.” Though Jimenez was initially able to flee the scene, officers later caught up to him and arrested him at a nearby bodega.

Sources said that a second officer was also assaulted off-camera while responding to the scene. The man who assaulted the other officer has been identified as 25 year-old Brandee Isom, who has been charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration.

Violent incidents against police officers like these have become unfortunately common as of late in a time when the left has vilified cops like it’s their job. Police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect the rest of us, yet leftists have villainized them to the point that crazed lunatics think it’s perfectly acceptable to attack them, putting them in even more danger.

Please join us in saying a prayer for the men and women in American law enforcement. As you can see in the video above, they need our support now more than ever.
