Trump’s blistering response to CNN: ‘I have no time for stupidity’

It's clear Trump is frustrated doing everything he can to stem the tide of sickness caused by the pandemic while the media sees it as an opportunity to divide the nation and run negative coverage of the president.

President Donald Trump absolutely hammered the media during a coronavirus briefing on Wednesday, then turned to Twitter to unload on CNN in particular, saying, “I have no time for stupidity.”

The verbal onslaught began earlier in the day when he responded to CBS News’ Paula Reid who insinuated the president’s desire to reopen the country and get the economy going might be based on his “political interests.”

“Just so you understand, are you ready?” Trump fired back. “I think there are certain people who would like it to not open so quickly. I think there are certain people that would like it to do financially poorly because they think that would be very good as far as defeating me at the polls.”

Does anybody doubt that at all? Is the media actively cheering on the decimation of the American economy?

Despite Politico reporting that the president was “eager to play nice” at the press briefing, Trump wasn’t about to let Reid’s comments slide. “There are people in your profession that would like that [economic collapse] to happen. I think it’s very clear,” Trump quipped.

“There are people in your profession that write fake news. You do, she does — there are people in your profession that write fake news,” he said, pointing to Reid and another reporter.

Why Was Trump Upset?

Was it something specific that set off President Trump? Just one day earlier, Reid’s network spent a mere 10 seconds covering its own poll that showed the majority of Americans support President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Reid also stated in a CBS Evening News segment that Trump’s claim about a new economic depression being worse than the coronavirus itself was an “unsubstantiated claim.” Maybe his reasoning wasn’t specific though. The president recently lashed out at media coverage of his handling of the coronavirus, saying the only thing he sees being produced is “hatred of me.”

Trump Turns His Ire to CNN

Having thoroughly eviscerated reporters at the briefing, President Trump turned to social media to take a shot at his favorite punching bag: CNN.

He accused the network of making up a story that he was “isolated” in the White House amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The column insinuates Trump’s restlessness is driving his desire to get America working again, not the well-being of the people.

“Trump has wondered aloud to aides when life will again return to normal—not just for the nation, but for himself,” they write. “The slowdown in his own life has led, in part, to Trump’s strong desire to see the guidelines he offered on avoiding crowds and staying at home lifted quickly.”

Trump slammed the piece as “fake news,” noting he’s working around the clock on the crisis, and said he has “no time for stupidity.”

It’s clear Trump is frustrated doing everything he can to stem the tide of sickness caused by the pandemic while the media sees it as an opportunity to divide the nation and run negative coverage of the president.
