One week after announcing that he had tested positive for coronavirus, Hollywood star Idris Elba told Oprah Winfrey that he believes the pandemic is Earth’s revenge on humanity for the damage people have inflicted on the planet.
“Our world has been taking a kicking. We’ve damaged our world and, you know, it’s no surprise that our world is reacting to the human race,” Elba said in an interview for the new Apple TV+ series Oprah Talks: COVID-19.
Not stopping there, the British actor went on to compare humanity to an infection and say that coronavirus was Earth’s way of curing itself of the illness.
“There’s no surprise that a virus has been created that is going to slow us down and ultimately make us think differently about our world and ourselves,” Elba said. “That’s like for me, that’s a standout thing that’s very obvious. This is almost like the world’s cry out to like, ‘hey hey hey, you’re kicking me, and what you’re doing is not good. So I’ll get rid of you,’ as any organism would do is try and get rid of an infection and maybe this is it for the world.”
Unsurprisingly, Winfrey was quick to hop on this radically leftwing, climate change-obsessed train by agreeing with Elba.
“I think we all lose as human beings if we just think of this as a physical virus,” Winfrey said. “I think it’s exactly what you just said. That it’s here to teach us, show us something about ourselves as individuals and also as a world of people. And this is a moment for our humanity to either rise or not.”

Like millions of people all over the world, I've been staying safer at home for over a week now. I know a lot of people are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and uncertain. Because of that, I wanted to offer some hope and gather thought leaders and people going through it to add some perspective. Which is why I FaceTimed Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina who are safely quarantined together after he tested positive for COVID-19. Idris fills me in on his journey and Sabrina reveals the result of her test after they decided to quarantine together. Winfrey does have a small point in that coronavirus is showing the world how important it is that we come together to take on this virus as one. However, there is nothing remotely accurate of what Elba said. It’s offensive to argue that humans are an “infection,” and it is ridiculous to claim that the Earth is exacting “revenge” on us for the “damage” we have caused it. Why must liberals make absolutely everything about climate change and shaming humanity?
This comes days after Elba became one of the first Hollywood stars to make his positive diagnosis public, telling his fans to “stay home people and be pragmatic,” according to Breitbart News. While we don’t agree about his latest comments on the virus, our thoughts and prayers are with him and we hope that he makes a full recovery.
