Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took to the House floor to read the entire Green New Deal this week because she claimed Republicans do not understand it, basing this assertion on their “wild claims.”
Ocasio-Cortez made this move on Wednesday afternoon, sending a message to anyone who opposes her radical climate change solutions.
“I have noticed that there’s been an awful lot of misinformation about what is inside this resolution,” Ocasio-Cortez said on the floor, according to Fox News. “A tremendous amount of wild claims — everything from saying we’re seeking to ban airplanes to ending ice cream.”
“As a consequence, I realized that many of my colleagues have never even read the resolution that they’re speaking on. They haven’t opened a single word of it,” she added.

Ocasio-Cortez went on to say that she decided to read the entire deal to send a message to “some of my colleagues across the aisle.”
The 30 year-old congresswoman proceeded to give a dramatic reading of the Green New Deal, which “calls for a drastic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, creating millions of jobs and rebuilding U.S. infrastructure by launching a 10-year mobilization phase to spur the transition to clean energy.”
The deal has been widely criticized for how much it would cost American taxpayers, with one study saying that it would cost a staggering $93 trillion over the course of a decade. Despite this, Ocasio-Cortez can’t seem to understand why Republicans have concerns over it.
“Why this is so controversial?” Ocasio-Cortez said at the conclusion of her reading. “So, please, as a moral, economic and political prerogative, I humbly ask our country to care for our planet.”
Ocasio-Cortez came up with the Green New Deal with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is the current frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. This serves as a reminder of exactly why it’s so crucial that we don’t let Sanders anywhere near the White House.
