As if there weren’t enough Democratic contenders vying to topple President Donald Trump in November 2020, another entered the race on Thursday morning.

Former two-term Democrat governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick declared his candidacy.
Patrick joins a crowded field that has narrowed down to four top-tier paladins: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), former Vice President Joe Biden, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana.
In recent days, billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has filed for the Democrat primary in Alabama — while the failed 2016 Dem presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, said that “many, many, many” people are urging her to run for the White House again.
Check out Patrick’s Thursday announcement about his entry into the 2020 contest.

The Northeast seems to be overly represented in the group of people running on the Dems’ side, which displays the limited geographic appeal of the Democratic Party to that region, urban centers, and the west coast.
It’s enough, though, to have won them the popular vote in every presidential race, except 2004, since 1992.
But not all Dems are happy with Deval Patrick.
Here, one from the very hard socialist Left expresses his indignation at both Bloomberg and Patrick.
(No doubt Patrick’s job at Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital might make a socialist a bit peeved.)
The billionaire class sends in two relief pitchers in the late innings – @MikeBloomberg and now @DevalPatrick. Was Bloomberg a little too on the nose? Patrick will be a more sophisticated way of trying to protect the upper class. Not. Going. To. Work.

The reason Patrick is getting in is that he likely thinks he can make enough of a splash to take him out of relative obscurity — and into a VP or Cabinet slot.
He cannot be foolish enough to think he stands a chance for the nomination.
This could be a dry run for a later campaign, of course.
But, just to be on the safe side, as of today Patrick’s bio page at Bain has been wiped clean.

That anyone would be considering getting into the Democrat primary at this late date is a testament to the fluidity of the race and the field.
With Warren believed to be too leftist, especially on her health care plan; Sanders too leftist in general; Biden too old and moderate; Buttigieg too new to the national game; Harris not ready for prime time; and all of the others not competitive across the country — there may be room for another big player.
Bloomberg would hurt Biden and attract moderate votes.
Patrick hopes for a miracle.
And if Hillary Clinton winds up getting in, all bets are off.
She would be a game changer in the Dem field and the pressure would be heavy on other female candidates to drop out.
But they won’t.
They know, as does the rest of America, that Hillary is yesterday’s news.
For Patrick, on the other hand, this could just be a recon mission.
