Why Our Beating Hearts Remind Us of God’s Vast Power

'He cares for the eternal well-being of our soul and spirit so much that He died to save us'

I was lying in bed one morning, listening to the steady beat of my own heart and marveling at the thought of how precisely and dependably God created it.

It beats over 100,000 times a day without any assistance or even a thought from me.

Well, the heart has an electrical system that keeps it beating — but is it really self-sufficient?

Although scientists like to credit chemical reactions for producing the energy to dependably power our heart, the simple truth is that every living thing requires an external source of energy.

No one is completely self-sustaining — except God.

My steadily beating heart reminded me of the vast radiance of God’s power.

The book of Hebrews says: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-3).

Jesus “upholds the universe by the word of his power.”

What God says — well, it simply IS.

Nothing else matters.

Who else holds this kind of power?

He not only powers our physical heart, but He cares for the eternal well-being of our soul and spirit so much that He died to save us.

This is truly mind-blowing and humbling all at once.

Our mind cannot wrap itself around the magnitude of God’s radiant power, but our heartbeat is such a great reminder that God is our all-in-all.

There is such sweet contentment when my heart loves Him more than anything in this world.

My heartbeat reminds me of why.

The sound of our heartbeats can cause us to rejoice with the perfect peace that comes from the power of God’s love.
