When we charge through life being tough and practical instead of taking the time to demonstrate compassion and love — we miss living in the very essence of God.
How else will others know the depth of God’s love if they don’t see it in us?
The Bible gives us many methods of demonstrating God’s heart.
For example, it says, “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:12-14).
The world is cruel.
People all around us are suffering.
When they see us, do they see love?
If we want to be an oasis of love, we must adorn ourselves with God’s heart.
We must practice being compassionate, kind, humble, patient, forgiving and loving.
Furthermore, we must not leave God out of our efforts because without Him our love will run dry.
He is love — we are not.
Of God’s great love and compassion, the Psalmist wrote, “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” (Psalms 56:8)
To think that Almighty God shows such poignant tenderness to His children!
How influential we, as His children, could be to draw others to Him if we exercised one iota of His compassion.
If we rush through each day with our mind full with our own goals, we miss living in the very essence of God.
God showers us with compassion that cost Him the life of His only Son.
He is our Source of true compassion and kindness.
In God we are beloved — and through His Spirit, we live in His essence.
