I once heard someone who was ridiculing the idea of faith in God say, “I only put my faith in what I can see!”

I couldn’t help myself.

To this person, I replied, “Well, dude, open your eyes and take a look around you!”

The meaning of my comment — that creation was evidence of God — was lost on this person because his heart wasn’t open to faith in God.

This individual preferred to have faith only in what he could see.

And that made me think: If he were blind, where would his faith be then?

God reminded me that this man actually was blind.

Many of us live that way.

The evidence of God is all around us, but many of us — even Christians — have been so blinded by darkness that it’s prevented us from seeing the obvious.

The Bible says, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalms 53:1).

Even if we don’t say “there is no God,” we often live like He doesn’t exist.

So instead of trusting God who created everything, we foolishly trust only in the creation He made.

Wouldn’t it be better to place our faith in eternal God instead of the stuff we leave behind when we die?

When we figure out that it makes sense to place our greatest faith in God, we begin to see the horrible folly of misplaced faith.

The wisdom of God’s Word redefines our faith goals: “Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish” (Psalms 49:16-17, 20).

He teaches us, for example, the complete folly of placing our faith in something as tenuous as money.

Then, like the Psalmist, we begin to recognize the security of placing our greatest faith in God: “The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting, [and He says,] ‘Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me’” (Psalms 50:1,15).

We live in the amazing adventures of walking by faith and not by sight.

Faith in God gives us sight.
