The Department of Justice has rejected former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe‘s appeal to avoid indictment for lying to federal investigators.

McCabe was fired in March of 2018 after the bureau’s inspector general determined he displayed a “lack of candor” a minimum of four separate occasions in interviews regarding leaks to the media about an FBI probe of the Clinton Foundation.

“The Department rejected your appeal of the United States Attorney’s Office’s decision in this matter,” a DOJ email reportedly states, as Fox News noted.

“Any further inquiries should be directed to the United States Attorney’s Office.”

U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu, according to the same outlet, has recommended moving forward with charges against McCabe, something the former FBI official’s lawyers were trying to prevent.

McCabe sued the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr last month over his firing, claiming it was part of President Donald Trump’s “plan and scheme” to rid the FBI of people he thought were biased toward Hillary Clinton.

In the suit, McCabe suggested the sole reason for his firing was “his refusal to pledge allegiance to a single man [Trump].”

McCabe, along with former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI lawyer Lisa Page, reportedly discussed wearing a wire or invoking the 25th Amendment at one point to remove Trump from office, according to former top lawyer James Baker.

“There are these — some number of conversations with the deputy attorney general about what to do next, what needs to be done,” Baker testified.

“My recollection is numerous topics were discussed, and these [the 25th Amendment issue and the wire] were among them.”

McCabe had a leading role in the Trump-Russia investigation.

Following the former FBI employee’s interview with “60 Minutes” in February, Trump hammered McCabe as “a big part of the Crooked Hillary scandal [and] the Russia hoax” as well as for being “a puppet for Leakin’ James Comey.”

“McCabe is a disgrace to the FBI and a disgrace to our country,” Trump added, mincing no words.

CNN recently hired McCabe as a law enforcement analyst.

He should really have an inside track on that topic if he winds up facing an indictment, in our view.
