Urgent Question: Does God Have an Answer for the Mass Shootings?

'When we fail to acknowledge the Lord — meaning give Him the honor He deserves — we become deluded and believe that evil is good,' observes the author

The shocking mass shootings that occurred that past weekend in our “civilized” country have been the subject of innumerable discussions.

Everyone is asking: “Why?”

We’ve heard the horrific events blamed on guns, racism, homophobia, politicians, big business, and so much more.

But is anyone really interested in what the Bible says about the reason for the explosion of violence?

Why is this rash of pure evil disrupting the peace of our country so that now we are fearful to step foot into Walmart or even attend church?

Who have we entrusted to be our nation’s peacekeeper?

The Bible says that Jesus is “the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). But what happens when the Prince is an outcast in His own kingdom?

Well, perhaps we are witnessing that. Long before God was “dethroned” in our nation, the Bible predicted what would happen when people abandon Him.

Paul the Apostle wrote: “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Romans 1:21).

When we fail to acknowledge God — meaning give Him the honor He deserves — we become deluded and believe that evil is good. Then, we justify anything — even pure evil.

The end to violence begins with the Prince of Peace.

What is the result for a nation that collectively fails to acknowledge God?

You can read it in today’s headlines.

Or you can read what was written a couple of thousand years ago, in about 56 A.D., from the book of Romans: “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless” (Romans‬ ‭1:28-31‬).

Doesn’t this sound like today’s news feed on Twitter?

Do we have any hope to reverse this tide of evil? Yes!

But we must allow the Prince of Peace — instead of the prince of darkness — to hold the heart of our nation.

Only He has the power to unify us in love under His reign of peace.

The Bible promises: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬).

The end to violence begins with the Prince of Peace.
