Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), citing America as a “beacon of light” for the rest of the world, introduced a resolution condemning socialism and vowing that the United States will never become a socialist country.

Taking aim at a Democrat Party that is quickly being replaced with “a radical, socialist, far-Left movement,” the resolution, introduced on Monday, immediately notes that socialism “poses a significant threat to freedom, liberty, and economic prosperity.”

And by extension, the new radical Left poses that same significant threat.

“We are at a pivotal time in our great nation’s history,” Daines said in remarks on the Senate floor.

“We have shown the world time and time again the genius of American ingenuity and the grit of American determination.”

“However, a radical, socialist, far-Left movement is growing across this country,” he added. “And it has taken root as the new voice of the Democratic Party.”

The resolution tags socialism — an economic system hailed by some 2020 presidential candidates, as well as the new stars of the Democrat Party, the so-called squad — as a “failed experiment” that “inevitably ends in misery and suffering.” To us, that’s the Democrat Party in a nutshell.

Bernie’s idea. During a town hall event earlier this year, presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) refused to say America won’t become a socialist nation should he be elected to the White House.

When asked to make that vow, Sanders, a devout socialist, couldn’t rule out the possibility.

Instead, he pivoted to promote such socialist platforms as “free” college, “free” health care, higher minimum wages, and exorbitant spending to combat global warming.

Meanwhile, members of the squad — Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — are members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

And Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has been accused by Vice President Mike Pence of “choos[ing] socialism over freedom.”

Should the Democrats capture the White House, it would seem fairly important to have the Senate on record as objecting to watching our nation turned into a socialist land.

Trump’s vow. President Donald Trump, during his last State of the Union address, vowed that America would never succumb to the travesty of socialism. Bernie appeared to object to the idea.

In a column for the Detroit News, GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel wrote that the Democrats, by comparison, are “doubling down on the radical, socialist policies that continue to alienate Americans.”

“Policies that were once too extreme even for the Democrat Party are now the norm in today’s Democrat Party,” she added.

“We, as Americans have a choice. One path leads to complete government control, undermining our constitution and our American way of life — the other path is the path of freedom,” Daines noted when discussing his resolution.

In a sane world, this resolution would pass with flying colors.

But this battle will no doubt be a microcosm of 2020: Do we vote for complete government control, or do we vote for President Trump?
