This Election Day, ‘I’m Voting to Support Liberty, Independence, and Freedom’

I am a woman, I’m a millennial, and I’m Hispanic.

I’m more than that, of course — but I mention this at the outset because of all the things I am, I am not a victim.

I am a strong-willed Hispanic woman with two college degrees, three amazing stepchildren, and a husband whom I adore and work with every day.

I am not a victim but rather something much bigger, an example of perseverance and steadfastness in a world where such things are in increasingly short supply.

Why do I say this? Because I was raised in part by a ruthless stepfather. My mother went through hard times, so I spent long stretches in those days with my grandparents. They were stable but also preoccupied with many things. Most days, I found myself utterly alone except for my unshakable faith.

I never knew my biological father.

When I was 14 I went to my uncle’s house to live. He was and is a fabulous man who I cannot thank enough for stepping up; but he was also a single older man with a life to live, too. So I was forced to navigate the emotional wreckage inside my family and myself for years. Thankfully my mother and I have now put the past where it belongs and look to a promising future.

Do I have bad days? Yes, we all do. The difference is those bad days do not define me. I define them by working hard and pushing forward toward the American dream.

When I go the polls to vote, I refuse to vote for those who try to find an inner victim in everyone. I refuse to support the idea that because the road is sometimes rough, you need the government to hold your hand.

Early on in my life, nobody held my hand — and guess what? I made it anyway because I believe in hard work and in holding myself accountable. I do not subscribe to the self-defeating point of view that every time the world deals you lousy cards, you need to go crawling on your knees begging for a handout from the government.

The only thing I need the government to do is stay out of the way and allow personal and economic freedom to flourish.

I believe in myself and I believe in America, a place where we all have the chance to rise above whatever circumstances or experiences we may have had.

The Democrat Party has been offering “free stuff” to people ever since I can remember, and frankly, I find it appalling and infuriating. On a more basic level, it appears as little more than a direct appeal for Democrats to buy votes from one group of people while paying the bill with money from other people.

I believe in myself and I believe in America, a place where we all have the chance to rise above whatever circumstances or experiences we may have had. I truly believe there is no such thing as inequality in America despite what most Democratic leaders try to peddle to the masses.

I hear people complaining all the time about how President Donald Trump is not “presidential.” They scream he has hurt people’s feelings or offended people by the things he says or tweets or whatever.

For me, it is refreshing to have someone who is fighting for my country, my family and me — every single day!

I will vote to support a fighter. I want someone on my side.

On this Election Day, I am voting to support the policies of liberty, independence and freedom.

In Michigan, I am voting for West Point graduate and combat veteran John James.

I’m also rejecting the ideology of victimhood and socialism put forth by gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer — and instead, I’m voting for pro-business, pro-Michigan, and pro-America Bill Schuette.

I will not think twice when it comes to voting for those who will support our president.

Please, sir, fight on!
