Why, oh why, can’t the Clintons just move into obscurity already?

The mainstream media and Hollywood seem to be unwilling to let these political dinosaurs go as they keep shoving them in Americans’ faces.

Now folks can get themselves ready for a Broadway show centered around Hillary and Bill Clinton.

The play will reportedly star Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne,” “The Conners”) as Hillary Clinton and John Lithgow (“Cliffhanger,” “3rd Rock from the Sun”) as Bill Clinton.

The play is set during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, when Hillary Clinton was trying to get her party’s nomination over then-Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

The play will take place in New Hampshire and will be centered around Clinton’s campaign — and her decision about whether bringing the controversial Bill Clinton into the mix was a good idea or a bad one.

“It’s a political play — but not in the way I think anybody will expect. It treats the Clintons like Shakespeare treated real people in his history plays — it is both fundamentally truthful and also wildly imaginative,” producer Scott Rudin told The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming show, which will be titled “Hillary and Bill.”

“It’s not in any way a docudrama or a work of nonfiction,” he also said, “but rather an exploration of power and how it works, not only in the canvas of a political campaign but inside an enduring marriage.”

He continued, “It’s funny and smart and intensely theatrical and, I think, very moving. It has that particular kind of energy of the best backstage dramas — it’s a deep dive into a pivotal moment we think we know a lot about, but that in fact we actually know very little about. I found it both shrewd and, in its way, revelatory in the way it posits a behind-the-curtain look at how history might have occurred.”

The play will begin previews on March 16 and officially open on Broadway on April 18. No specific theater for the show has been announced so far.

Lithgow and Metcalf each have two Tony Awards to their names.

It should come as no surprise that Hillary and Bill Clinton are getting the Broadway treatment.

Entertainers seem to be working full-time to turn the Clintons into full-fledged celebrities these days.

Hillary Clinton has even made on-screen appearances in scripted television shows. She recently appeared on the “Murphy Brown” reboot; she’ll next be seen playing herself on the long-running “Madam Secretary.”
