Don Lemon, host of “CNN Tonight” on that network, just can’t wrap his head around rapper and entertainer’s Kanye West’s visit to the White House on Thursday, claiming that West put on a “minstrel show” during his visit, as Townhall reported.
Panel moderator Wolf Blitzer showed a clip of West at the White House pointing to the president and saying emphatically, “If he don’t look good, we don’t look good. This is our president — we have to make our core be empowered, we have to bring jobs into America.”
This was all too much for Lemon.
“I have no animosity for Kanye West,” Lemon said. “I’m just going to be honest and I may get in a lot of trouble for it. I actually feel bad for him. What I saw was a minstrel show today.”
He added, “Him in front of all these white people, mostly white people, embarrassing himself and embarrassing Americans, but mostly African-Americans, because every one of them is sitting either at home or with their phones, watching this, cringing.”
Lemon went on to target President Donald Trump in his comments, saying he “exploited” West, whom he claimed “needs help” and also a ”father figure,” as Townhall noted.
Lemon also said the president is “disrespecting the Oval Office more than Kanye did, because he invited Kanye in and exploited him.”
“The office is sacred,” Lemon lamented. “Can you imagine if President Barack Obama had Kanye West or any rapper or any person entertainer in the Oval Office who said ‘M.F.’? Can you imagine? Everybody’s heads would be exploding. Not just over at Fox News, not just the conservatives. Everybody’s heads would be exploding, saying, ‘What’s happening?’ This is not the first time that Donald Trump has denigrated that office.”
Earlier this week, Lemon hosted a panel, some of whom made highly inflammatory comments about West.
CNN commentator Bakari Sellers, host of the “Viewpoint with Bakari” podcast, responded to the rapper’s scheduled meeting to discuss prison reform and job opportunities for ex-convicts by basically calling West ignorant, as BizPac Review and others reported.
“Kanye West is what happens when Negroes don’t read,” Sellers told Lemon.
Sellers talked about how West supposedly treats Trump, which is to “shower him with adulation,” before questioning his intelligence by saying several times that West doesn’t have the “depth” to talk about issues of importance to the black community.
