Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La., shown above right) accused Democrats of strategically delaying the Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, making his remarks Saturday during an interview with Fox News’ Griff Jenkins (above left) on the show “Fox & Friends.”

He also suggested the FBI should investigate the delay, as Fox News Insider reported.

Following Friday’s dramatic Senate Judiciary Committee events, in which Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) demanded an FBI investigation — to be limited in scope and last no longer than a week — into the sexual assault allegations against the nominee, President Donald Trump subsequently ordered the FBI to conduct a “supplemental” probe.

Cassidy sees some strategic coordination in the delay.

“This is part of a broader Democratic strategy to coordinate, and in that coordination, to seek to delay,” he told Fox News’ Griff Jenkins. “How many more charges can be brought out to smear this man to create legitimate doubts in the minds of some of the American public?”

He added, “It [the FBI] should investigate whether indeed there is this intent to coordinate, and in fact the actual coordination.”

Jenkins asked the senator whether the FBI should also look into who leaked Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s letter, in which she shared her allegations of sexual assault against the nominee at a 1982 house party, when they were both teenagers.

“There’s at least two senators that challenged Judge Kavanaugh’s assertion that this is a part of a coordinated effort — two,” answered Cassidy. “Now, if they’re trying to cast doubts upon his judgment — I think he showed insight — let’s actually investigate. Ask Dianne Feinstein under oath: Did she leak it [the letter], then ask her aide. By the way, we should also seek to get Dr. Ford’s therapist records … that’s all she offered for corroboration.”

He added, “I think most people on the Republican side see it for what it’s worth: It is a pattern of leaks set to delay and to character-assassinate … because it’s released, it feeds into the delay.”

Cassidy also said, “I hope truth is more important than character assassination and ideology. It won’t be for some, but for some others I think there will be.”

There has been a pattern of leaks, Cassidy said, to assassinate Kavanaugh’s character.

“Things [have been] released that should not [have been] published, because there’s no support for them,” he explained.
