“This is not a trial of Dr. [Christine Blasey] Ford, it’s a job interview of Brett Kavanaugh,” declared Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Thursday morning.

“Is he the best we can do?”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, opened the hearing on Thursday on Capitol Hill — after which Feinstein made her remarks.

She almost immediately ripped into her Republican colleagues — and spoke about the horrors of sexual abuse that millions of women suffer in this country.

“Sixty percent of sexual assaults go unreported. [And] when survivors do report their assaults, it’s often years later due to the trauma they’ve suffered and fearing their stories will not be believed,” said Feinstein in part.

Feinstein began her remarks by welcoming Ford to the hearing — and added, “I think it’s important to make sure you’re properly introduced.”

Grassley then jumped in.

“I was going to introduce her,” Grassley interrupted, “but if you want to introduce her I’ll be glad to have you do that. But I want you to know I didn’t forget to do it, because I would do that just as she was about to speak.”
