Amazon’s new “Jack Ryan” show is a “patriotic nightmare,” according to a review from Vanity Fair.
Even worse, watching the newest adaptation of Tom Clancy’s work is like “falling down a Fox News rabbit hole.”
The show follows Clancy’s most famous character, Jack Ryan, played in this iteration by John Krasinski (“The Office,” “13 Hours”).
Ryan is a desk-bound analyst for the CIA who is called into the field. Though he’s hesitant to join the front lines of America’s battles abroad, he answers his country’s call and becomes an agent like no other.
Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine all previously played this character in films.
The newest version of the character finds Ryan navigating the complicated waters of the War on Terror. Unlike a lot of other sanitized, left-leaning content out of Hollywood, “Jack Ryan” is a fairly honest work that acknowledges the evil of the world and never bows to political correctness. It keeps in line with the patriotic themes of Clancy’s books enough that fans should get a real kick out of it for years to come — it already has a second season greenlighted.
Leftists are not too happy with a show that shines a spotlight on modern terrorism and dares to celebrate the military and America.
Vanity Fair’s review, by Sonia Saraiya, says the show neglects “to even attempt to challenge the narrative of noble American involvement and intervention abroad. Both its protagonist and its plot are based on the foundational, unquestioned notion that American-military might — the best-funded killing infrastructure in human history — is helping to save the world.”
She also criticized the show for promoting toxic masculinity.
Other leftists on Twitter have also stepped forward to criticize the show for its patriotic leanings.
Jack Ryan seems like the least interesting show in the world. If you still buy into global imperialism in the form of white male patriotism you dumb

‘Jack Ryan’ is yet another cliche-ridden, Islamophobic cash-grab (like Homeland, London has Fallen, Executive Decision) that exploits John Krasinski’s man-boyish White savior charm to convince you that Trump is right re anti-Muslim immigration. @soniasaraiya https://t.co/wwHwlQwbdp

“If i see another ‘Jack Ryan’ ad, I’m going to die of PATRIOTISM! Out of fear that sarcasm does not come across here,” wrote another user who then went on a curse-riddled hashtag spree which included phrases like, “f*** Jack Ryan” and “f*** white saviors.”
Conservatives, meanwhile, have been embracing the show and its depiction of the modern War on Terror.
Tom Clacy's #JackRyan is Homeland without all the crazy.
Watch it.

This is a negative review of #JackRyan from Vanity Fair. The main criticism is the series is too pro-American and not woke enough.
In other words…. this review is exactly the reason why #JackRyan is great and you should drop everything to watch it. https://t.co/Y5Ooixr0R7

Well, I guess I'll check it out then, because Vanity Fair's idea of a "patriotic nightmare" probably just means it isn't openly and relentlessly disrespectful of America.https://t.co/wbIe29jhrs

This is @VanityFair complaining that a Jack Ryan series applauds Americanism. Stupidest thing I have read in a long while. https://t.co/r3i7noBJ0Q

You know Jack Ryan is a good show when it triggers all of the leftist trash sites, like Vanity Fair.
If you're a Tom Clancy fan then I highly recommend the show.

@VanityFair objects to @AmazonStudios #JackRyan due to its 'toxic masculinity.' (I guess Jack Ryan isnt woke.) VF hates the proAmerica perspective. (No "leading from behind.") And for VF, it's just not politically correct enough.
I'll be streaming it.

Some have gone so far Left today that it’s hard to know what, if anything, will satisfy them. Especially when it comes to artistic expression, leftists seem to more and more want less complicated, honest and challenging stories and more works that simply reaffirm their groupthink beliefs and check off all the politically correct boxes special-interest groups currently are demanding.
“Jack Ryan” is not that show.
It’s a a slick action series that looks great and is satisfying and refreshing in the way it confronts both a complex character like Jack Ryan and the consequences of modern terrorism.
