The elephant in the room at this Sunday’s Oscars will most certainly be the numerous sexual misconduct allegations that have rocked the entertainment industry over the past year.

Host Jimmy Kimmel has already said he’ll mostly avoid speaking about the #MeToo movement, though he’s more than willing to go political by using the sitting president of the United States as a punching bag.

Laura Ingraham, host of “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News, and contributor Raymond Arroyo, managing editor of EWTN, discussed the upcoming Oscars on Friday night — and all the weird news surrounding it.

“The #MeToo movement has cast a long shadow over this Oscars,” said Arroyo.

He then noted that the luxurious “swag bags” to be handed out to the nominees at this year’s ceremony contain the very odd gifts of pepper spray, body alarms (in case a person is being attacked), and drink tests to tell someone whether a beverage has been spiked by a potential predator.

Sure, the contents of these goodie bags — apparently valued in the neighborhood of $100,000 each — also contain such over-the-top items as 24-karat gold facials, organic vegan lollipops, a 12-night trip to Tanzania, a year’s worth of fruit deliveries, and much more.

But the personal protection items are a strange addition for an awards show that is supposedly trying hard to move away from the problems the #MeToo movement was presumably trying to address.

“Why is that in the swag bag?” asked Arroyo about the items. He said it only makes the industry look worse, as it shifts the focus of the night away from the nominated films and draws even more attention to the potentially dangerous people lurking at these ceremonies.

“They used to get good stuff,” Ingraham added, laughing.

Another bit of odd news discussed was an art piece that recently went up in downtown Los Angeles — a statue of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein holding an Oscar and wearing a bathrobe, no less — called “Casting Couch.”

The “work of art” is obviously trying to remind anyone viewing it of the horrible accusations against Weinstein while also taking aim at the Oscars. A British artist who goes by the name Plastic Jesus created the statue.

“I can’t explain the name,” said Arroyo.

He added, “When the scandal is bigger than your movies, that’s a big problem for you.”
