Hollywood and Media Have Already Chosen Their Candidate for 2020

President Donald Trump has been in the White House for one year, but some of his opponents have already decided on the person they want to run against him in 2020.

Oprah Winfrey gave a fiery speech Sunday night after winning the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe award. Her speech seemed intended as a rallying cry for inclusion — but it turned political at times. And it was almost solely geared toward women.

Some saw it as a sign of a future in which the media mogul would be giving campaign speeches — and doing her best to beat Trump in a presidential race.

“She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president. I don’t think she had any intention [of declaring]. But now she doesn’t have a choice,” actress Meryl Streep told The Washington Post after the Winfrey remarks. Streep has her own past with political speeches, though hers don’t go over quite as well.

Other celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Silverman were quick to jump on the Winfrey 2020 bandwagon, with Witherspoon making a comment eerily similar to when director Spike Lee told the world that time would be divided into “before Barack [Obama]” and “after Barack.”

Some folks were not as quick to throw their support behind Winfrey — some even posted pictures of her getting cozy with alleged sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.

The biggest and oddest support came from NBC. The network put out a tweet after Winfrey’s speech that had many people questioning the group’s credibility as a news organization. “Nothing but respect for OUR future president,” the network said, along with an image of Winfrey.

The tweet is now deleted and the network is doing its best to explain it away.

As for how real a Winfrey presidential run could be, her longtime partner Stedman Graham, who attended the Globes with her, told the Los Angeles Times: “She would absolutely do it.”
