Kathy Griffin. Not many people stood by comedian Kathy Griffin recently when she decided it would be a good idea to do a photoshoot in which she was shown holding a likeness of President Trump’s bloody head.

Griffin apologized afterward and then appeared to walk back her apology in a press conference, claiming it was all in the name of comedy and that she was a victim of targeting by Trump and his family. In reality, Griffin knew exactly what she was doing and there was no comedy intended. Even outlets such as CNN were disgusted enough to fire her.

What made Griffin’s actions worse were the memories of comments she’d also uttered back in 2011, in which she partly blamed former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.). Griffin’s reasoning was that Palin was using gun-scope imagery on her website, this instance of which pointed to the location Giffords would actually be when she was shot. By Griffin’s own definition, she believes imagery can instigate violence.

If she thought a gun scope started a violent act (it didn’t) — what did she think holding the bloody head of the president would do?
